The work analyzes the case of modernization of the water supply system of a selected part of an urban area. The starting point for considering the expansion of the system was collecting information about the current state. The process of building a computer hydraulic model is presented, with an example showing how GIS can be used to integrate information from various databases. The paper shows how to determine the future requirements of the water supply system in the context of demographic changes. For the requirements identified in this way, three variants of system expansion were proposed, all of which meet the basic requirements for water supply systems in Poland. In order to indicate the most advantageous solution, key evaluation criteria were defined, and partial scores were calculated for each variant. To make the final selection, the Topsis multi-criteria decision analysis method was used.
