In addition to the basic requirements for water meters, which are operational quality, both at the stage of selecting
a water meter and maintaining a specific metrological characteristic throughout the entire period of operation,
a reliable and accurate reading of the water meter is of great importance. Common and very dynamic development
of electronic equipment allowed for remote readings of all types of utility meters. It has also revolutionized the readings
technology and changed the way of thinking about construction of meters. Stepping away from traditional, mechanical
meters forces to change the way we evaluate measurement accuracy. New technologies pose a great challenge for
the formal evaluation of efficiency of meters (legal metrological audit). The article presents the research on the accuracy
of indications of water meters after a five-year operational period and after re-verification and another five-year period
of operation, as well as the experience of twelve-year operation of remote reading attachments.
