Currently, one of the most important challenges for municipal waste management in Poland is to achieve the required levels of preparation for reuse and recycling. To achieve them, it is necessary to further intensify and improve the effects of selective collection, especially in densely populated areas. Local authorities and municipal companies are currently looking for solutions that increase the efficiency of collection while reducing the costs of this system. Along with the development and implementation of smart city technologies and platforms, new solutions in the field of intelli- gent waste collection are used. This publication presents the results of a research project, the subject of which was to design, build and test new technologies in an integrated system for temporary storage and collecting municipal waste in real conditions. The system in question consists of: a specialist vehicle with a manipulator – a hook lift and a press- container with bins for collecting waste, hereinafter referred to as the “PRESKO System”. The aim of the innovation was to design the system so that it could be operated by one person, in a fully automated manner. The PRESKO Sys- tem is distinguished by the use of innovative bins and a very short time of their emptying. The pilot carried out in real waste collection conditions showed that the PRESKO system met with social acceptance, which translated into improved selective collection effects, observed already shortly after its implementation.
