Intensive rainfalls and snow melting often cause floods of protected terrains and overflowing of existing sewage
systems. Such situations are burdensome for inhabitants, and also may cause considerable material losses. The
paper presents one of the possible technical solutions ensuring reliable outflow of wastewater to the receiver, namely
the energy-saving retention and transfer reservoir. When the gravitational outflow is limited, the task of the transfer
reservoir is to store a certain volume of wastewaters and discharge them to receiving waters. Wastewater is
transferred with the use of a system of compressors and an appropriate combination of pumping systems. During
low flows wastewaters are conveyed gravitationally to receiving waters through the transit chamber.
This article presents the principle of operation of the transfer reservoir in the energy-saving version. The effect of
energy-saving operation of the reservoir is obtained during the process of equalizing the air pressure in both
storage chambers of the reservoir isolated from the atmosphere. The article presents two characteristic cases of the air pressure equalization process in the reservoir’s storage chambers depending on the filling level in the water receiver.
