The popularity and presence of floating treatment istalnds in the landscape is increasing rapidly, particularly on
open urban reservoirs. They are distinguished by their aesthetic value, belong to nature-based solutions, improve the
microclimate, and, most importantly, have a cleansing function. However, in the Polish nomenclature, floating
treatment islands solutions have yet to be precisely classified. There are also no specific design guidelines. This
article attempts to explain the method’s concept, classify the system of Floating Treatment Wetlands, discuss the basic
pollutant removal mechanisms, and discuss selected design issues. The work was created as a result of the Preludium 18 project [2019/35/N/ST8/01134].
