The publication proposes measurement problems of the flow characteristic of a butterfly throttle operating in laboratory discusses. The adopted test procedures were carried out in the range of the throttle opening angle from 10o to 45o. Various settings of the time constant for the measurement sensor of the fluid flow in the range of 0.1-10 s were used in the test procedures. Test results for the influence of the flowmeter time constant indicate the consequences of improper selection of the flow meter and actuator for an industrial flow system and confirm the results carried out with a ball valve installed in the system [5]. The form of the characteristic is significantly influenced by the flowmeter time constant and it should not be too large. The differences in the flow indications between the opening and closing phases of the throttle then increase. From the control point of view, the best solution would be to use the software function averaging the course of the throttle opening and closing phase. This function should be matched to the real flow characteristic and will probably be a complex function.
